Super Mario Bros 3 Multiplayer?

Everyone know the multiplayer mode? The one that is playable by going to "START"? I love playing that, and I'm wondering how possible it would be to make an online version, so me and my friend could play it distantly?|||I do not think that will ever be possible even with the Nintendo Wii. If would be cool if possible though.
